Terrain: Mountain paths, rocky ridges, steep ascents, some scrambling.
I've said hello to High Street many times but never via this ridge and boy am I glad I had Rough Crag from my list of Hewitts to bag as this was the reason for the walk. A great walk on a great day, 3 more Wainwrights visited after High Street and back to Mardale Head. This is an outstanding Lake District mountain walk offering superb ridge walking, excellent scrambling on Long Stile, and magnificent views throughout. The route takes in Rough Crag (a Hewitt), High Street (one of the most famous Lake District summits), and three additional Wainwrights - Rampsgill Head, High Raise, and Kidsty Pike. The Straits of Riggindale section provides stunning views on both sides, and the vista from High Raise across to Cross Fell is exceptional. A classic Lakeland horseshoe that rewards with outstanding scenery throughout.
