A difficult route in Cheviots. Check the GPS track on Outdooractive for full details of the route, waypoints, and terrain.
Starting Point: Car park, Langleeford (NT 954 225)
Terrain: Pennine Way, boggy moorland, paved slabs, grassy descents, wet sections.
This is an outstanding circular walk in the Cheviot Hills, taking in three Hewitts including The Cheviot itself - Northumberland's highest summit at 815 metres. The route follows the Pennine Way to The Cheviot, where paved slabs provide relief from the notoriously boggy plateau. Views throughout are excellent when visibility allows, with the return ridge visible from early in the walk providing a preview of the route ahead. The section from Comb Fell to Hedgehope Hill is particularly challenging with very boggy ground nearly all the way, making waterproof boots essential. Hedgehope Hill rewards with amazing 360-degree views before the steep grassy descent over Long Crags leads back to the start. A classic Cheviot Hills horseshoe combining the region's highest summit with superb ridge walking and big views across Northumberland and Southern Scotland.
