Starting Point: Roadside parking (NY 235 350) - plenty available
Terrain: Gate, clear path steadily climbing to summit, second cairn, retrace steps
This is a short but rewarding out-and-back walk to Binsey, the most northerly Wainwright, completed in just 39 minutes up and down. I had spare time after walking a couple of other fells earlier that day so did it to just tick it off, but was more than pleasantly surprised. To be honest, every time I saw it on my list of Wainwrights to walk, I questioned why - what on earth was Alfred Wainwright thinking of when he added this isolated little bump to his list? The answer became clear from the summit. The views from the most northerly Wainwright were stunning - clear views across Scotland, the Irish Sea, and all the other northern fells were awesome. The roadside parking offers plenty of space before the gate leads to a clear path steadily climbing to Binsey's summit cairn. Take time to visit the second cairn before retracing steps to the car. An isolated little bump that proves Wainwright knew exactly what he was doing - a short but very enjoyable hike that exceeded all expectations and demonstrates why even the modest fell
