Terrain: Clear paths, woodland paths, Shropshire Way, mine workings, road walking through parkland
This is an excellent circular walk to the summit of Brown Clee Hill, the highest point in Shropshire. The route climbs steadily through woodland and past old mine workings before joining the Shropshire Way for the final approach to Abdon Burf. The trig point marks the Marilyn summit with great views across Shropshire in good weather. The plane crash memorial provides a poignant moment to remember those who lost their lives. Clee Burf relay station sits on the site of an ancient settlement, adding historical interest. The descent through woodland and the lovely parkland section on the return make for a varied and enjoyable walk. Two attempted shortcuts on our walk proved unsuccessful, so stick to the described route for the most efficient ascent. A rewarding Shropshire hill walk combining the county's highest summit with historical interest and beautiful countryside.
