A fine short circular walk from the pleasant village of Church Lawford, threading together the Shakespeare's Avon Way and A Coventry Way through attractive countryside north of the River Avon. The outward leg joins the Shakespeare's Avon Way early and follows it north over the River Avon and through the fishing ponds to Kings Newnham, where the ruined tower of St Laurence's Church makes an immediate impression. The history surrounding the church vault — including the remarkably preserved body of Lady Audrey Leigh and the mysterious embalmed figure with the "T.B." ribbon — is as intriguing a piece of local history as you will find on any walk in this collection. A Coventry Way then takes you northwest across open fields and into Brinklow before a westward path behind the houses and a clear but potentially muddy track brings you south to Bretford and The Queen's Head. The Shakespeare's Avon Way picks up the return east along Kings Newnham Lane, passing the church tower again before the lane and bridge bring you back into Church Lawford. A thoroughly enjoyable walk that punches well above its modest distance in terms of interest and variety.
