A truly beautiful Lake District day taking in four Wainwright summits with nearly 1000 metres of ascent and some of the finest views the Eastern Fells have to offer. Helvellyn and the magnificent Catstye Cam — as fine a mountain profile as there is in England — are in view for much of the walk, a constant reminder of the quality of the terrain you are moving through. The climb from Glenridding through Blaes Crag and The Rake to Glenridding Dodd is steep but immediately rewarded with glorious views across Ullswater. Sheffield Pike opens the vista toward Helvellyn, and the ridge walk west from Nick Head through the broad flanks of the range is a pleasure despite the occasional boggy section. Raise delivers spectacular views at the heart of the Helvellyn range before the short climb to White Side completes the four Wainwrights. The descent around Red Screes demands care with steep drops to the right, but the valley track back through to Greenside Road is a straightforward and enjoyable finish to a magnificent day in the mountains. A walk that absolutely delivers on its promise.
