Starting Point: Great Langdale Campsite (NY 287 058) The Langdale Valley is one of the most beautiful locations in the Lake District, and this walk starts from my favourite campsite perfectly positioned for exploring the surrounding fells. The are car parks at bot pubs but you will have to pay.
Terrain: Valley paths, steep ghyll climb, rocky ridges, scree descent, mountain paths.
This is an outstanding Lake District classic - the Langdale Horseshoe taking in three magnificent Wainwrights with some of the finest mountain scenery in England. Starting from the beautiful Langdale Valley, the route climbs the dramatic Rossett Gill before traversing high-level terrain past Angle Tarn to Esk Pike with its outstanding views. Bowfell provides what many consider the best 360-degree panorama in the Lake District. The steep descent from Bowfell adds excitement before the long, satisfying descent on The Band returns you to the valley. A walk that combines everything that makes the Lake District special - dramatic climbs, high-level ridge walking, outstanding summits, and beautiful valley scenery. Starting from a campsite in the heart of Langdale adds to the experience, making this a truly memorable day on the fells.
