Starting Point: Hampton Lucy village, near the village hall or The Boar's Head pub (SP 255 570)
Terrain: Village streets, Shakespeare's Avon Way, riverside path, driveway, quiet roads (one can be busy - wide verges available), field paths (one section fades in places), woodland edge, stile (rickety), footbridge, Clump Hill
A thoroughly enjoyable shorter circular walk from the attractive village of Hampton Lucy, making fine use of the Shakespeare's Avon Way along the River Avon before heading out through pleasant field paths and woodland edge to Clump Hill. The outward leg along the riverside is particularly pleasant, with the Shakespeare's Avon Way hugging the Avon all the way to Scar Bank before the route cuts north through fields past Wood Cottages and along the edge of Hampton Wood. The path fades in one field near the tiny spinney but the walking is still good and the line is straightforward. Clump Hill provides the highlight of the walk in terms of views — even on a hazy day the vista across towards Ilmington and Ebrington Hill is superb, with the Malverns visible in the distance on a clearer day. The return via Mount Pleasant and the footbridge gives a lovely glimpse of the magnificent church of St Peter Ad Vincula back in Hampton Lucy, one of the finest examples of Victorian Gothic in Warwickshire and well worth a closer look on your return. A great little walk.
