💡 Tony's Notes

This is a perfect introductory walk to the Lake District Fells, deliberately starting at height to save legs and suitable for young and old alike. This was a quick hike to the top of Latrigg I did with 2 of my granddaughters - sadly their first and last Wainwright as they left for Australia before I had time to do more with them. The gentle path rises from Underskiddaw to Latrigg's modest 368m summit, which nearly always offers views of Keswick and Derwentwater below. On lucky days, panoramic views extend to include Blencathra, Skiddaw, Grisedale Pike, and Helvellyn. The circular return via the Cumbria Way provides easy walking back to the start. With limited parking that gets busy, early arrival is recommended for this short but rewarding walk that makes an ideal first Lakeland fell for children or anyone new to the fells. A special memory of introducing granddaughters to the Lake District before their move to Australia.
