A moderate route in Berwyns. Check the GPS track on Outdooractive for full details of the route, waypoints, and terrain.
Starting Point: Roadside parking on A5 at Llidiart-y-Parc (SJ 118 433) - very limited spaces
Terrain: North Berwyn Way, woodland paths, good paths, forest tracks, boggy ground (short section), grouse butts, pasture land, disused mine.
This is an excellent circular walk in the Berwyn Mountains via the North Berwyn Way, taking in Moel Fferna with marvellous 360-degree views across the Berwyns and Clwydians. The route winds uphill through woods before emerging onto open moorland where views across the Berwyns become visible. The path to Moel Fferna involves a short boggy section but rewards with outstanding panoramic views. The descent continues on good paths for quite a while through Cynwyd Forest, requiring care to take the second track at the critical junction. Liberty Hall, the remains of an old shooting lodge, provides historical interest, with great views ahead to the Llantysilio Mountains and Corwen. The return involves following the fence (no shortcuts found despite searching), a 180-degree turn, and navigation through several junctions including one dead-end path discovered through trial and error. The route crosses pasture land past a disused mine before rejoining the North Berwyn Way for the final stretch back to the start. A rewarding walk combining good paths, forest tracks, moorland, and excellent views throughout.
