A difficult route in The Arenigs. Check the GPS track on Outdooractive for full details of the route, waypoints, and terrain.
Starting Point: Very limited parking - we found space in a large gateway at SH 962 397
Terrain: Tracks, paths (boggy to very boggy), wild walking (extensive pathless sections), heavy gorse, steep terrain, stream crossings. This is a complex walk with extensive wild walking requiring excellent navigation skills. Pathless sections, boggy ground, and heavy gorse make this challenging terrain.
This is an outstanding but extremely challenging circular walk requiring excellent navigation skills throughout. The route takes in Foel Goch Hewitt with brilliant panoramic views across Bala, the Arans, the Arenigs, the Berwyns, and North Snowdonia. However, from Garnedd Fawr onwards, the walk becomes a serious navigation challenge with extensive wild walking across pathless, boggy terrain with thick gorse sections. The climb to Moel Emoel through heavy gorse and steep ground is hard work but rewards with wonderful views. The descent requires careful route-finding to avoid taking risks on the steep eastern flank. The recommended drier alternative at the stream crossing is sensible advice. This walk is only suitable for experienced mountain walkers with excellent navigation skills and appropriate equipment. The combination of challenging terrain, pathless navigation, and wonderful views makes this a truly adventurous Welsh mountain experience.
