💡 Tony's Notes

This is an outstanding circular walk taking in three Hewitts via the Cambrian Way ridge with superb views across The Black Mountains throughout. The route begins with limited parking requiring early arrival, then climbs over fields to join a good path curving round to the Beacons Way, where views across towards Skirrid and Sugar Loaf already appear. An unmarked path cuts the corner uphill to the Cambrian Way, where a clear and well-defined ridge path provides excellent walking for some distance. The views across The Black Mountains are superb as Pen Cerrig-calch Hewitt is reached first, followed by Pen Allt-mawr Hewitt with those views still happening. The route drops and rounds to Pen Twyn Glas Nuttall where the Cambrian Way turns left, gently rising to the final Hewitt and summit of the day, Mynydd Llysiau. The descent via a track allows corner-cutting where ground permits, before a clear path descends slowly through the valley to a fork offering route choices. The shortest route via the right-hand path keeps higher ground, avoiding a lengthy country lane walk, continuing through Park Wood where the path becomes a track. The final section involves a right-left turn sequence through a gate before descending the field past a waterfall back to the start. An exceptional ridge walk combining three Hewitt summits with a Nuttall and outstanding Black Mountains panoramas.
