💡 Tony's Notes

A thoroughly enjoyable Warwickshire lowland circular combining two of the county's fine long-distance paths with a stretch of the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal and a quietly spectacular piece of Norman history. The western leg via the Millennium Way and Heart of England Way passes through the gentle rolling country above Henley-in-Arden, with the earthworks of Beaudesert Castle — built by the de Montfort family around 1140 and now a Scheduled Ancient Monument — visible below from the woodland path above The Mount. The route north and east via Coppice Corner Farm delivers the canal at Finwood Bridge, where the Heart of England Way is traded for the towpath and the pace drops pleasantly as the canal meanders south through the Warwickshire countryside back toward Preston Bagot. The Crabmill waiting at the finish is a worthy reward. A fine and varied walk through some of the best of lowland Warwickshire.
