💡 Tony's Notes

A classic Kinder Scout circuit taking in the finest elements of the southern plateau — the dramatic edge walk from Ringing Roger around Grindsbrook Clough, the extraordinary gritstone landscape of Crowden Tower and The Woolpacks, the Kinder Low trig point, and the historically charged descent of Jacob's Ladder on the Pennine Way. The approach through Edale village and up to Joys Gate is a fine opener, and the ridge path to Ringing Roger delivers views south across the Vale of Edale that justify the climb entirely. The edge walk around to the Kinder Scout Circular Walk is one of the best pieces of moorland rim-walking in the Peak District — Grindsbrook Clough below and the open plateau above, the gritstone tors appearing at intervals. The Woolpacks are remarkable in any conditions and otherworldly in mist. Jacob's Ladder brings the walk down from the plateau with the weight of history underfoot, and the Pennine Way return through Upper Booth and the valley fields closes a circuit of considerable quality.
