What a walk - and what a discovery. I have lived in Bishops Tachbrook my whole life and had never heard of the Holy Well of Southam until mapping this route, which just goes to show there is always something new to find on your doorstep. The outward leg from Ufton church takes you through pleasant fields and along the muddy edge of Ufton Wood before crossing quiet roads past the Polo Club and winding past Stoney Mill to the Holy Well itself - a genuinely fascinating and peaceful spot that deserves far more visitors than it probably gets. The walk into Southam and through the town is straightforward, with the playing field and churchyard adding a bit of variety before the route heads northeast to Stockton. The Millennium Way up Mount Pleasant and past Stockton Reservoir is a fine stretch before the Grand Union Canal towpath provides a long, flat and thoroughly enjoyable return leg all the way west to Longhole Bridge. The Centenary Way then climbs back up Ufton Hill to complete the circle. A thoroughly enjoyable walk with a genuinely surprising historical highlight at its heart
