Windy Gyle on a Windy Day

A beautiful circular walk in the Cheviots — a first visit to this stunning area and one highly recommended. The Pennine Way climbs with views of southern Scotland and The Cheviot opening up before the route briefly crosses into Scotland en route to Windy Gyle's trig point at 619 m — back in England at the summit. The return past a barn to Rowhope, two footbridges and a big smile firmly in place. The Cheviots proved beautiful.

The Cheviot, Comb Fell & Hedgehope Hill from Langleeford

An outstanding Cheviot Hills horseshoe taking in three Hewitts including The Cheviot itself — Northumberland's highest summit at 815 m. The Pennine Way's paved slabs provide welcome relief from the notoriously boggy plateau. The section from Comb Fell to Hedgehope Hill is particularly challenging underfoot — waterproof boots essential. Hedgehope rewards with amazing 360-degree views across Northumberland and southern Scotland.
