The Pennine Way climbs with views of southern Scotland and The Cheviot opening up before the route briefly crosses into Scotland en route to Windy Gyle's trig point at 619 m — back in England at the summit. The return past a barn to Rowhope, two footbridges and a big smile firmly in place. The Cheviots proved beautiful.
