Derwent Edge Circular

An outstanding figure-of-eight walk along Derwent Edge โ€” a little bit more than a circular but starting and finishing at the same place. The route heads along Hurkling Stones to the full length of Derwent Edge before the descent to Lost Lad and the return via the Derwent Reservoir. A superb day on one of the Peak District's finest gritstone edges.

Kinder Scout via Brown Knoll

A magnificent day on the roof of the Peak District, combining a classic approach via the Chapel Gate track with the high plateau of Kinder Scout in perfect clear conditions. Brown Knoll sets the tone โ€” a fine moorland summit reached by paved flagstones that transform what would otherwise be an exercise in bog-hopping into genuinely enjoyable walking.

Lud's Church, The Roaches & Hen Cloud Figure of Eight

A magnificent and varied walk in the southern Peak District packing an extraordinary amount into 13 kilometres โ€” a dramatic gritstone ridge, one of the most atmospheric natural features in England, fine views across two counties, and a pair of excellent summits. Lud's Church, the narrow mossy chasm, is utterly unlike anything else in the Peak District.

Waterhouses via The River Hamps, The Manifold Way and Mere Hill

A thoroughly enjoyable circular in the Manifold Valley combining the easy navigation of the Manifold Way along the former railway trackbed with a fine ridge walk over Mere Hill and a return through attractive upland Staffordshire countryside. The outward leg along the River Hamps is a delight โ€” even when the river is running underground through the limestone, as it was on the day, the valley is beautiful throughout. The junction of the Hamps and the Manifold is a lovely spot. The smallholding near SK 092 501 โ€” with its goats, llamas, alpacas and distinctly furry pigs โ€” is a genuine highlight of the return leg and not to be missed.

Ringing Roger & Kinder Low

A classic Kinder Scout circuit taking in the finest elements of the southern plateau โ€” the dramatic edge walk from Ringing Roger around Grindsbrook Clough, the extraordinary gritstone landscape of Crowden Tower and The Woolpacks, the Kinder Low trig point (633 m), and the historically charged descent of Jacob's Ladder on the Pennine Way. The edge walk around to the Kinder Scout Circular Walk is one of the best pieces of moorland rim-walking in the Peak District. The Woolpacks are remarkable in any conditions and otherworldly in mist. Jacob's Ladder brings the walk down from the plateau with the weight of history underfoot.
